/I want to apologize on behalf of CrossFit HQ (who doesn't want to and won't apologize) for 15.3. I think it was a huge mistake for them to program Muscle Ups as the first movement in an Open WOD. Athletes who have them were pumped, but we saw only ONE athlete (Congrats to Chris Beaty) get their first muscle up. Everyone else was left with what I would consider a pretty lame scaled workout!
You guys signed up for the Open at my urging, hoped to see a ranking at the end of five weeks, and now you've been shut out. There were 270,000 people signed up for the Open, and about 230,000 just got screwed out of a $20. They didn't ask for my opinion, but if they had I would have recommended they keep the muscle ups at the end of a WOD like they always have so that you all could stay on the leaderboard. I can't even come up with a good reason why they did this, but they probably don't have one either.
Elite athletes will rise to the top, no matter what. The Open used to be about the Community. Now it feels like it's been taken away from the everyday CrossFit athlete. For this, I'm sorry.
